Marijuana subcommittee hears moving testimony until late into the night.

Retired district judge gave moving testimony as to why HB1365 needs to be turned into law.

Rep. Eddie Lucio III’s bill was heard until approximately 11pm Thursday night with almost 100 people alone testifying on his bill.

As the songs goes, doctors and lawyers and such. That’s who testified at the subcommittee hearing Thursday morning, afternoon, and evening. The turnout of people brought individuals from across the state and across multiple livelihoods to say one thing: the law needs to change.

Mothers and fathers of children with autism came out to speak, business owners that have seen the results in other states, judges, and district attorneys among others stated their case as to why the law is failing the citizens of Texas.

The district judge gave moving follow up on how there are cases of people in Texas that will receive no relief from any drug for their mental illness, except for marijuana. And that by having the law remain the same, makes Texas complicit in the misery that these people have to suffer through when they could be getting the help they need to live and lead independent lives.

This is why you as a constituent must follow through and spread the information along with writing your elected officials, pushing them to change the law. This bill still needs a vote by the committee and will need to move to calendar, the House floor and then the biggest hurdle which is the Senate. Lt. Gov Dan Patrick has publicly stated, and his office has stated that they are not approving of this type of legislation. We the people should want to hear what he would tell this honorable district judge who actually has his hands in the dirt right now as a volunteer for the Texas court system.
