This Texas Senate Race May Impact Marijuana Legalization Nationally

We wrote about Dwayne Stovall and John Cornyn this past week and how one is pushing states’ rights. Cornyn is obviously pushing prohibitionist views. As an activist pushing for legalization, it would appear to be in the best interest to just push for someone who wants legalization.

There are citizens that prefer to keep their party in place, and for them, Stovall appears to be that option to get a conservative Republican while getting a change on the stance of cannabis at a federal level. If you’re not a Republican, the poll numbers are pointing to MJ Hegar being the Democratic candidate for Senate. This article is not about the Democrat side of things, but a Republican state of affairs if things get shaken up across the US.

So we would like to layout another race and individual who has gotten in the way of legalization amongst other bills coming out of the House of Representatives. Mitch McConnell would be that person. His race for his Senate seat may be close with Amy McGrath. So what does the race here in Texas have to do with Dwayne Stovall?

McConnell is the Senate Majority leader. If he loses his race, this means that another majority leader has to be picked. If the Senate does not flip to the Democrats, the next in line for the position is the Senate Majority Whip. That would be none other than John Cornyn.

Right now McGrath, who is an extremely conservative Democrat, is within the one percent mark in polls against Mitch McConnell. No telling how accurate this could be, but depending on which way the winds blows, the seat could flip.
